The International Rowing Federation FISA has released a new racing schedule for tomorrow (Monday 1 November).
FISA announced earlier in the day racing was cancelled due to the strong winds.
“Rowing is an outdoor sport. We have to be ready for all conditions. When it’s possible to row, we will row,” said Matt Smith, Executive Director for FISA.
There is now a new racing schedule for Monday and Tuesday. Racing will start, as scheduled, at 10.05am. The first race is now the women’s quad scull.
“We will start with the heats that were not run today. Except that the women’s quad scull will be the first heats, and the women’s double scull will be the last heats. Why? Because we have two women doubling up in the double and the quad,” Smith said.
The repechage races scheduled for Monday have now been moved to Tuesday, except for the women’s lightweight double sculls.
There will be a short break in the timetable to allow for the new adaptive start to be put in place. The first adaptive race is scheduled to start at 1.35pm with the AS (Arms and Shoulders) men’s single scull.
Tom Mayo, CEO of the Organising Committee, said it was a disappointment that things did not run smoothly today, but to remember we are in the weather’s hands.
“From the feedback we have received so far the process has been managed by Park & Rides, and Traffic and Transport. Everyone knows they can come back tomorrow, at no cost,” says Mayo.
Tomorrow’s forecast is looking better, with about 25% less than today’s wind velocity.
“Tuesday is looking a little bit better than tomorrow, and Wednesday is looking very good,” Smith said.
The revised racing schedule can be found on the World Rowing website - worldrowing.com.
