Olympic champions back in Australian squad

02/05/2011 13:12 CET
Australian rowing has received a huge boost by the return of some top rowers to the squad. Trials for the 2011 Australian Rowing Team were completed recently and one of the best crews in the mix is the reunited Olympic Champion men’s double of David Crawshay and Scott Brennan.

Crawshay and Brennan will race on the 2011 Australian squad as the men’s double sculls after showing to be clear favourites at the team trials held over an intensive nine day period at the Penrith Olympic Regatta Course.

Crawshay rowed last couple of year’s in his country’s quad while Brennan took time off after the Beijing Olympics to work on his medical studies. Returning to the double has been seamless for Crawshay and Brennan who clicked as soon as they started rowing together again.

Also coming back after a post-Beijing break is the Olympic Champion men’s pair of Drew Ginn and Duncan Free. Despite being out of the trials due to a rib stress fracture Ginn was still named in the Australian men’s four along with Free. They will be joined by Joshua Dunkley Smith, 21, and 20-year-old Nicholas Purnell.
