The first day of racing at the 2010 World Rowing Championships has been suspended due to strong winds at Lake Karapiro.
“Rowing has been suspended due to un-rowable conditions,” said Matt Smith, Executive Director of FISA.
Both the Lightweight Men’s Pair and the Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls were completed this morning as scheduled.
The decision to suspend racing was made by the Fairness Committee. They expect the weather conditions to improve this afternoon.
“The wind forecast shows that after three, there should be some calming of the wind,” says Smith.
Smith will confirm at 3pm whether racing will recommence at 4pm.
Weigh-in for the lightweights, which was completed this morning, will still be valid for racing this afternoon.
